ESD projects

Since 2005, we have been implementing a wide range of educational projects in the spirit of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) – over 60 national and international projects on global sustainability, including almost 20 European collaborative projects. Our work is based on the guidelines of Global Learning and Global Citizenship Education.

Through campaigns, public relations work and political demands, we are campaigning for a sustainable, fair and globally responsible society.

How we work

1.

“Glocal”

Our actions have a global impact. We always think globally and locally together.

2.

Changing structures

We enable people to question their position within social structures and discover new approaches to action.

3.

Casual Learning

We developed the approach of casual learning to reach people who have so far had little contact with sustainability education in a low-threshold way in their everyday lives. Inspiring examples can be found in our database Inspirations & print templates as well as in our material rental service.

4.

We are a “think tank”

We develop and test innovative educational methods to communicate global sustainability issues in an innovative way.

5.

Inspiration through cooperation

We connect actors from educational fields that have had little interaction so far. These collaborations create new learning spaces for greater global justice.

6.

Passing on knowledge

We provide practical know-how for multipliers – through trainings, publications and an extensive range of materials. In addition, a database with inspiration and print templates offers further practical examples and free templates for developing your own educational formats.

our project work

Our ESD projects (Education for Sustainable Development) are financially supported by the European Union (e.g. as part of the DEAR and Erasmus+ funding lines), federal and state funds as well as church funding bodies and private foundations. Whether as an applicant or project partner:

We have been working constructively, closely and reliably with organisations from Germany and Europe as well as with our many contacts in the Global South for almost two decades.

Content focus

Soil protection

We address the global soil crisis and work on agroecological approaches and sustainable land use.

Sustainable
agriculture

Our educational work focuses on how agriculture can be organized in a socially just, ecologically sustainable and globally responsible way

Gender equality

We strengthen feminist perspectives in sustainability education and make power relations and gender-specific and other forms of discrimination visible in a global context.

Climate change

We show how the climate crisis and inequality are linked, develop educational formats on climate justice and promote critical thinking for sustainable action.

Our approaches

Rural area

We introduce global sustainability topics to disadvantaged regions – using participatory approaches and working together with rural education providers.

University cooperations

We connect university stakeholders, provide advice to committed individuals, and offer concrete training and project opportunities to strengthen global sustainability at universities. Our university promoter supports processes in terms of sustainable development.

Young commitment

We create spaces for participation, self-efficacy and development and environmental engagement with young people. We support them in implementing their own ideas.

Insights into our project work

We create spaces in which people can understand global challenges, position themselves and take action.
The following insights show examples of activities from our educational work – they come from various ongoing and completed projects.

Together with young people, finep advocates for soil protection and gender justice

With the Ground Breakers! workshops, we support young people in the EU project Rural Voices 2030 in developing their own ESD projects, taking responsibility and putting their commitment to a fairer world into practice.

finep reflects on its role with educational practitioners and designs transformative learning spaces

In the Erasmus + project DEfY , we create spaces for reflection for people from educational practice. Together with multipliers, we question approaches to political education and develop new ideas on how educational spaces can be designed in the face of global crises so that they incorporate the emotions and reactions of young people.

finep sensitizes visitors to Messe Stuttgart to their water consumption

Our Virtual Water light installation as part of the EU Water of the Future project made visible how much invisible water is contained in everyday products – and how closely consumer behavior is linked to global resource issues.

Philosophy & Goals

Our vision

We work towards a world built on justice, respect, and sustainable cooperation - a good life for all, worldwide.

Recognizing structures - shaping change

Global exploitation and violence are systematic. We are committed to understanding and changing these structures - through reflection, education and solidarity-based action.

Open up perspectives

We invite you to question world views, shift perspectives and be inspired by voices from the Global South. Every aha moment counts - towards a sharpened global perspective.

Courage to co-create

The knowledge about fairer futures is there - what is missing is implementation. We encourage people, especially young people, to get involved, take responsibility and help shape social processes.

Acting together

Transformation can only succeed if we work together. That is why we create spaces for exchange - between North and South, between organisations, groups and committed individuals.
