Monitoring and Evaluation

How to successfully design your monitoring and evaluation system: For you as a staff member of a non-profit organisation in development or humanitarian aid, central aspects of your work include the discussion on effectiveness, and the results and relevance of development projects abroad. The challenges of project implementation are complex.

The process from consistent project implementation to successful project conclusion entails a number of challenges for European NGOs and their partner organisations in the global south.

„We are required more than ever to document with appropriate and credible means, the effective use of available resources and the notable contribution to the improvement of the living conditions of the target group in projects.”

Important questions during the implementation of projects are:

How can I steer the project in a way, which ensures that it will reach its objectives?

And finally: How can the project results be measured?

The training course in monitoring and evaluation assists you in answering these questions. You will learn to use helpful instruments and methods as management tools in order to steer and evaluate your projects. You will be enabled to collate learning experiences and use them for future projects. Some instruments and tools used include: the logical framework, project cycle management and outcome mapping.

You will learn

  • Which aspects of monitoring must be respected in order to ensure successful project steering, and
  • Which quality criteria are especially important during evaluations

After the training, you will be able to

  • Set up monitoring plans, recognise undesirable developments and to establish respective counter measures, as well as to
  • Write terms of reference and access evaluation results.
