Strategy workshop of the “Mitigation Action Facility”
The Mitigation Action Facility is a flexible fund financed by several European donors that promotes ambitious climate change mitigation projects in the energy, transport and industry sectors through technical support and financing. The Board of Directors, which includes representatives of the funding institutions of several European countries, meets regularly to gain an insight into the work of the specialist implementation team in the Secretariat. In order to make this exchange effective, it is necessary to present the working methods transparently, address challenges openly and at the same time balance different interests.

finep supported one of the bi-annual meetings of the Board of Directors on behalf of GIZ, which acts as the Secretariat of the Fund, by designing and facilitating the one-day workshop in Berlin. The aim of the workshop was to reflect on the suitability of the Mitigation Action Facility with regard to new developments, to confirm its purpose and to assess its performance and added value from the stakeholders’ perspective. It also clarified whether and how the Secretariat’s mandate should be adapted and what the next steps in the process should be. finep used innovative methods and facilitated the event from a systemic perspective, which made it possible to openly address hidden fears and concerns.
