A Voluntary Ecological Year (FÖJ) at finep in Esslingen!
An FÖJ is a youth voluntary service with a focus on ecology, environmental protection and sustainability. An FÖJ usually lasts 12 months. It starts in September; it is possible to start later. Your work at the place of assignment is complemented by 25 seminar days. These are organized by our sponsoring organization Freiwilligendienste DRS.
finep is a non-profit project and consultancy organization in the field of sustainable development. Our work focuses on adult education, consultancy and the promotion of local democracy. We run projects on nutrition, rural areas and climate change. We try out new methods, such as “casual learning”, coaching or debates as an educational approach. finep also supports other organizations and municipalities in strategic planning, project management, conferences and events. You can find more information about our activities under ESD projects.
We offer you

You support us regularly:
- in event management (preparation and follow-up, communication with project partners and participants, etc.),
- in the design and creation of learning products, educational materials and publications on sustainability topics,
- in media and public relations work,
- with our social media presence,
- and in our day-to-day finep work in the office (e.g. maintaining the contact database).
Frequent, but not so regular:
- Content research on sustainability topics for projects, publications, etc.
- Creating photo documentation of events and work results
Other possible tasks include - Preparing creative flipcharts and metaplans for events
- Collaboration in evaluations: e.g. developing and evaluating questionnaires, conducting surveys
- Co-designing the content and methodology of seminars and trainings
- Creating of a training video, collaboration on a manual, (co-)development of new casual learning tools
What you bring:
- Interest in sustainable development topics (e.g. fair trade, climate change, citizen participation, development cooperation, ecology….)
- You are between 17 and 27 years old
- Reliability, friendliness and open-mindedness
- Good written and spoken German
- Confident handling of WORD
We are also pleased about:
- Knowledge of various IT programs (e.g. MS Office, graphics, image processing, etc.)
- Creativity
- Interest in independently carrying out your own project in coordination with us
- Manual skills
- A car driver’s license or current driving training
- Good knowledge of English or other languages
